I rebuilt my entire front suspension and steering including a New Control Valve and Power Steering Cylinder. Everything works great except for the Elephant in the room which is that I have to replace the Rubber Bushings for Steering Power Cylinder every 500 miles. I have tried parts from every Vendor out there (they all appear to be the same crappy rubber) and I am unable to find the equivalent size in a Poly Bushing. Any idea as to whether or not the problem is the bushing or somehow my car? Also, I would like to know if the bracket that secures the bushing end of the rod is the same bracket everyone else has?

update... I obtained some Poly Bushings from Summit Racing (Prothane #6-705BL) which required that I drill out the hole to the correct size to fit the metal sleeve that they ride on, but the rest of the dimensions are exact. I am hopeful this will solve my problem as these are not only polyurethane, but also have the very necessary shoulder which is missing from all the other aftermarket vendors that sell the rubber replacement part.

I think part of problem is angle created by drop bracket, contributes to "wallowing out" of bushing. I haven't had any issue with my Comet or Cobra using factory frame bracket. For Fairlane with aftermarket (apparently same as yours), I shortened bracket as much as possible without boot scrubbing the headers.

Thanks for the input. Are you saying that my bracket is not the factory frame bracket? If so, could you post a photo of what the factory bracket looks like so I can hunt one down? Thanks

Yours is defiantly the aftermarket "drop" bracket. Used for header clearance.

Brackets for Fairlane/Torino, Mustang & Maverick all have different part numbers. I dunno what differences are but AFAIK one drop bracket seems to fit all. Orig is a short cast iron piece. This is for Torino/Fairlane, note C6 at begnning of part number. Number for Maverick is DODZ-3A652-A

THANKS! I had no idea it was an aftermarket part.

So does your car have headers?

Then you will probably need to keep the drop bracket in order to keep clearance.
