A friend of ours dropped off two front bumpers and two rear bumpers the other day. He was sure the two front bumpers were from an old '69 Mustang he once owned and he was not sure about the two rear bumpers. All he wanted us to do was use the best front brackets and the best rear brackets off the bumpers for his '70 Mustang we are restoring and then scrap the bumpers. Well the one rear bumper is definitely not a Mustang bumper. It may be a Pinto or possibly a Camero bumper, so for now it is a mystery bumper. The two front bumpers looked right so we removed the brackets, painted them up and went to mount them on the Mustang. Guess what. They didn't fit. Not even close. Half a day wasted on parts that were not for this Mustang. The hubby was about to toss the bumpers and brackets in the scrap heap when I noticed one of the bumpers still had the original FORD parts number sticker on the inside of it. I ran down to the house and checked up on the part number and low and behold, both front bumpers are for the 1970 - 1972 Mavericks. The bumpers are a little pitted and one has a small ding on the very front of it, but other than that they are completely straight and both have thier brackets and turn signal lights. They both look to be great re-chroming candidates. And to think they were about to thrown away. Now they will go down to our basement to join the rest of our Maverick parts. I know our friend once had a 1970 Maverick, so I wonder how many more parts he may have laying around.
Awesome, great for you but bad for your friend. At least the Mustang parts are reproduced so he has an option.
