Why I can't run '71-'73 Mustang spindles on my Maverick?

I was thinking about picking up a set of the 2 inch drop spindles from Fatman Fabrications. Anyone tried running these on your Maverick?

They list them for '65-'73 Mustangs and '60-'62 Comets.

And I don't want to hear anything about cutting coils. I'm not interested. My car is a daily driver and I want to retain the stock ride and handling characteristics, and keep my tires wearing evenly. I'm willing to spend the money to do it the only way that I perceive to be right.

Don't know without seeing both spindles side by side. You could be opening up a can of bump steer if the tie rods angle is off. Mustang outer tie rods might correct the problem. Might not get a full 2" drop. My main concern is not if they will bolt up...it's how it is going to act going down the road

That's exactly what I'm getting at. I know they'll bolt up. But will they work.

Why wouldn't they drop the car a full 2 inches?

Yeah, I know of a 70 around here running them, but they were worth more than the car? $1700 or so???

You said earlier this spindle fits '60-'62 Comets. The Falcon and Comet used the same spindles. When people swap to Granada brakes on a Falcon/Comet the front end will raise because the Granada spindle is 3/16" higher than a Falcon/Comet spindle. Some people clam up to 1-1/2" gain in height. (I think this is because the coil spring is not relaxed yet.) IF the Mustang spindle height is the same as a Maverick you shouldn't have this problem. That's why I said look at them side by side

I would think they would work just fine but you will have to use the 71-73 stang calipers since they are totally different than the mavericks.

I can get them for a little over $600 to my door. If they were $1700, I'd just do a Mustang II front end.

    These spindles use Granada calipers.

This thread has nothing to do with using the brakes off a 71 to 73 Mustang.

The drum brake spindles on the early Mavericks (1970-72) are exactly the same casting numbers as on 1970 drum brake Mustangs.

Jamie, is there a different drop spindle for the 1970 Mustang? or are they all the same 1965-73 Mustang?

71-73 Stang spindles, as well as most of the front suspension, will bolt right in.
Therefore, aftermarket 71-73 spindles will bolt in.
There is a chance that the manufacturer never really thought about it, so they didn't list it for a Maverick. Like said though, their aftermarket spindles will be set up to use 71-73 disc brakes... Therefore you need all the other brake parts to do the conversion less the spindles. They are big bearing spindles too... Like 74-77 Mavericks and all Granada/Monarchs. So if you are working on an earlier Maverick, the stock rims won't fit.
