I know there have been a few threads on this, but I was just curious, how much do you have to bend the fuel sending unit arm (float) for it to work? I looked through a few different places but didn't find an answer, I am considering this tank for my 73 which definitely needs it... Also as far as I know this tank doesn't require any modification besides longer straps or bolts correct?
I didn't bent nothing. Sending unit is pretty much accurate, 19 gallon tank holds 18 gallons when reading empty. Yes, only longer bolts are needed to install the tank.
I don't believe this will fit a 70, due to the gas tank being part of the trunk floor but I could be wrong. Shouldn't be a problem for a 72. Did you use the stock fuel sending unit or the spectra FG178A unit? But thanks for the info that's great to hear!
The new sending unit came with the tank...along with sock, Oring and lock ring. I had to buy new vapor valve and grommet
I put the F30 19-gallon tank in my 71, but I purchased a new stainless sending unit for the 19-gallon tank. If you do purchase a new sender, make sure it's the correct tube size. Mine was a 3/8".
What size should the correct tube size be? It looks like from what I can find the outlet port on the one I am looking at is 5/16.
That's just it, they come in both sizes. Just be sure to match the sender tube size with the tube size of the hardline on the body.
I put one in a 71. and ordered the mustang sending unit. It works fine. But I think Melvins has new sending units.
The 70 tank is completely different than later years, drops in from the top and is the trunk floor. I recently installed a 22 gallon 70 Mustang tank in my 70 Maverick. Required some cutting and welding. Sometime I'll post the photos I took of the process.
