Ok so I got the spindles today and it's just the spindles and I think the caliper brackets (not sure). what I need is #1 To know what year they are I think they are 1975.. casting number says... 5D 5 AA #2 I need a good source where can I get backing plates and calipers for them? Also the caliper brackets appear to bolt on but I can't see how, so if any one has a detailed picture it would help....I have already looked at the exploded view pics and they were no help as they look to be different style...the caliper brackets (I think) that I have look like a large "C" kinda squared off. what I think are the caliper brackets align up with the holes in the spindle but the hole in the spindle seems to be tapered and the bolts that came with it all do not fit. In the one pic my index finger is pointing to the mounting hole that the bolt I got with it will screw into but will not go throught the hole it aligns up with in the spindle.
any parts store should carry the calipers. I got mine for $14 at the local oreilys. If you google discbrakeswap.com they should have the backing plates. Their link is also on the vender section here.
Oh crap don't tell me that.....I am just about ready too pull all of my hair out and I got a pretty good bit of it to pull!!!
Have a look at the spindle on that web site for www.discbrakeswap.com. those are what they look like. They look like this:
But they do look like these in this pic best as I can tell. http://www.discbrakeswap.com/Mustang%20Disc%20Brake%20Conversion%20Kits%20SWAP2.html they have them standing on their end in this one, so can't really see and this says its a granada kit. If I got ripped off there is gonna be a killing in Brooks Ky. tomorrow...I am up for a road trip with the 308!
But true I don't remember any calipers on a Maverick or Granada sliding on pins and these are that kind....on the other hand I do think these are maverick spindles but now to get the proper caliper mounts for them...I just need to be sure they are Maverick spindles so how do I know for sure? I think the person I got them from just saw caliper brackets and threw them in with the spindles, but the holes for mounting them do align up on the spindle so that worries me.
Brooks in down the road from me, i don't have a 308 but ive got a 38. Let me no and ill take care of it for ya.....lol
Any way you look at them, those are not stock Maverick, Comet, Granada, Monarch front disc brake caliper mounts.
Yep I see that now Dave, I was just being stupid about it, but I need to know if these spindles are Maverick one's as I was told. And as for the killing mavmike72, it's me I want shot but in this dudes front yard!! lol Forgot I found these numbers on the spindles as best as I can read them they are 5D 9 AA on the drivers side spindle and 5D 7 AA on the passenger side spindle.
the spindles are granada but I am sorry to inform you that the caliper brackets are for mustang torino cougar 68-73
Here is a picture of the 72 Cougar spindles and caliber brackets I put on my Maverick. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=67195
Yes the spindles look correct but that caliper mount don't. wondering if that a versailles front setup I'm not sure I never seen one or could it possibly be the 80+ granada stuff?
Definately not Versailles...that is what I have on my Grabber now. Off to pick n pull after a terrible nights sleep.
Ok just so everyone knows there is a difference in the Versailles spindles and the Maverick/Granada spindles other than the lbj hole size, the arm where the tie rod end connects to the spindle is lower (about 1 and 1/2 inches) and farther inboard on the Versailles and this is what caused my bumpsteer problems, plus the backing plate bolts on in a different way also kind of an inverted arrowhead pattern. This may help someone in the future to get the right spindles for their Maverick or if you need Versailles spindles to help identify them.
