For you members that have later sport steering wheels without the horn rings but with the circular metal plate. What did you do with the horn contacts since you loose your horn with this type wheel. I don't like the idea of letting them touch the metal plate and risk grounding out against the shaft.
Maybe cut a circular piece of plastic to fit inside the steering wheel's hub, then glue it down with some RTV?
This is only a theory on my part, but can't the slipper ring assembly from the stock wheel be put onto a sport wheel?
I'm pretty sure it's one solid, machined piece. On second though, if you are not going to run a horn at all, just disconnect the wire at the horn or "snip" the feed wire (light grn/red on a '72) between the headlight switch and the steering column and tape it up for future (re)use.
If you dont need it get rid of 12v to it. No need to have that big hot wire in a 40 year old column if you dont need it. The factory horn wiring at this age gives me the willys.
