It's been documented somewhere here on the board. Do a search for small bumper conversion .. many posts. I just finished mine up ... it helps to have all the parts beforehand ... it really helps to have a small bumper car for reference so you can see what needs to be done.

As for parts your will need:

Bumpers and all brackets and bolts
    Front and Rear valance
    Front stone guard
    Early model 1/4 extensions
    Rear bumper inner trunk brackets

There is only one way to attach the rear bumper - weld in the trunk supports, drill holes and bolt on the bumper.

There are several methods for the front bumper:

    1) Duplicate factory with threaded holes (gotta weld)
    2) Drill and bolt all the way through the frame
    3) Use existing holes in late model frame
    4) I'm sure there's more ... I know Dan Starnes used another method

I used method 3 mostly ... The rear frame bracket hole was already there .. I just used a bolt, washers and a nut on the inside of the frame.

After the bumper was lined up I drilled a new hole through both the bracket and frame so I could pass a nut up through the access hole in the bottom of the frame. There are two access holes - one below the rear hole which worked out well ... and one beneath the new hole I drilled.

Again ... it is so much easier if you have a small bumper car to use as reference. Since I had my 71 parked right next to my 74 it helped out alot ...

    Good luck!

Houston? I am just south, in Angleton. I did the conversion last year. Got the information from this site. I think Mavman has the outline on how to do it. Either e-mail him or do a search. It should be on the site somewhere.

    Mavaholic,

I am SO SORRY that I gave your credit to someone else! I used that exact documentation to convert my bumpers, but couldn't find it when this guy was asking for it. Please forgive me, as you have helped me tremendously in the bumper and many other projects. You are definitely one of the GOOD GUYS!

    Scott
