If I had 5k....which I did not when i built my motor...

I would take a mustang 5.0L block, rebuild with some forged 9:1 pistons, good hardware maybe a girdle, Some gt40 iron heads, spend the rest of the money on a good carb and intake setup for forced induction, and run a single turbo up front by where the battery would mount, use the electric water pump and fan, gm large case alt with the powermaster 731 bracket, top it with a c4 and 2500rpm converter....

YEA BUDDY. That way you have spent most of the money on non "wear" items, aka the turbo and carb/intake, ignition etc. So if you throw a rod or blow a piston...no big deal $$ wise but still make a ton of horsepower...

I wish I would have used forged pistons in my rebuild....I would be down this route asap.

I don't know, I'm with you on that one, I'd rather rebuild the six myself, but I guess I'm too young to have gotten addicted to eight cylinders lol. From what I've seen on the internet, the answer to the question "how fast can my straight six go" is "how fast do you want". Electronic ignition, a big(ger) 2bbl carb, and a more efficient intake/exhaust should do absolute wonders for that motor, though I suppose if you really want to go crazy you could stick a crackling beast camshaft and solid lifters and all that stuff on it...
