I own a 73 maverick with a roller 302 out of a 87 lincoln and I was wondering what all you had to do to put a 5 speed into a automatic car. The automatic transmission is I think a c-5. It is hooked up to a ratchet shifter because we couldn't use the z-bar. I think the 79 and up mustangs use a cable for the clutch, so I no need for the z-bar.

The clutch linkage will be the hardest part to figure out. First you need to find a clutch pedal assembly for the car. Then you need to figure out which bell housing you can get. THe late model 5.0 ones are set up for cable. In order to use a cable, the clutch pedal must be modified to use one. Earlier bell housings are mechanical linkage so you will need an adapter for the T5 which is available from any Mustang supply house. If you have the bucks, you can get an hydraulic kit and it wont matter which bell housing you use.Once you get the linkage done, then its just a matter of modifying the trans mount and getting the drive shaft shortened.
