This "coffee" can is located on the passenger side under the gas collector within the engine compartment. I know this is for a vacuum tank...but for what? And where does it get connected to?

Yea, so when you punch the gas pedal you don't loose the door(s) in the climate control system.

I don't think it is a vacuum canister.

Aren't you looking at the charcoal canister?

If so, that is to catch gas fumes from the fuel tank.

the charcoal canister has a larger hose running to it which comes out of a metal line which is as mentioned for the fuel vapor. The coffee can is smaller and has 2 nipples if I remember correctly and is attached to the body with a metal clip.

Hes not talking about the charcoal canister, hes talking about the small recycled folgers coffee cans ford used as a vacuum canister. They have small vacuum lines which goto the heater valve and inside vent controls.

Thanks guys, nope, it's not the fuel collector canister I'm talking about. It's the coffee looking one under it. I don't have an a/c or running a heater in this maverick (performance and weekend type toy) so I was thinking of removing it. Thought I would ask before doing so. So, just so I'm clear, on coffee can, two tubes come off of it..one GOES to the heater/ac controls inside the vehicle and the other COMES from the intake manifold, correct?

Yes. You don't need none of that stuff anyway if your not having a heater or ac. Plug n play

No, :) hehehe I was just being smart, because they always looked to me like they struct a deal with folgers to make the vaccum canisters.

What models had that? Mine either had that or the charcoal canister, but not both. I am pretty sure mine was the charcoal.

I know all the 71 and 72's I have seen had them sitting under the charcoal canisters.

The vents are all vacuum operated, Im assuming the canisters are so that when your stomp on the gas to accelerate your heat doesnt shut off until the motor builds vacuum back up.

Factory A/C cars had those cans. All cars had those charcoal canisters.
