I bought some new stuff for the interior and planning on putting in new carpet in a few weeks, but somehow my car leaks..everywhere! the front seat is wet, under both sides of the dash, and behind the front seat. I know theres cracks in the weather striping in the windshield and the weather striping on the door is doesn't go all the way to the corner, but would this cause this much water to get in the car?

Could be the dreaded "Cowl Leaks" common to Mavericks.

Mine leaks as well, but near as I can tell, it is just around the windshield. The amount of water it lets in is amazing in a good rain. My biggest fear is messing up the windshield chrome trim trying to get in with some silicone to patch it up.

Sit in the car and have somebody spray the car with a hose ... shouldn't be too hard to find the leak. If you have lots of water ... it's usually either rotted out cowl vents and/or leaking windshield gasket.

Has the windshield ever been replaced? It seems that these days the glass shops don't know how to seal the windshields on our cars. I had to take mine back to the shop at least 10 times before it stopped leaking. The glass guys always want to seal the windshields like they do on new cars and it doesn't work. The right way to do it is with that black rope butyl rubber caulk stuff...3M makes it and you can find it at auto parts stores. Anyway...your '77 *should* have a cowl made with galvanized steel and that would make it less likely to be rotted out, but not impossible I suppose...

If you're checkin' for leaks....check the heater core while you're at it....Mine used to fill the passenger floor up......AFTER I put in new carpet....:slap: And as stated.....check cowl vents and gaskets. My cowls are good.....gaskets and weatherstripping are not.....Good Luck!! Preston
