hi my name is jamie. and i was wondering how you would adjust the water pump belt without the power steering pump. do you have to change pulleys so the alternator is the adjuster or is there an idler pulley?? any help is very appreciated jamie
use the alternator pully to run your water pump. This might mean a differant size belt or even changeing pullies to line it all up. Just run the belt around the crank pully to the alt andthen to the warerpump and back to the crank pully. You will then use the adjustement of the alt to set you belt tensiom. Hope this helps.
There is a different pulley set for non-PS cars. The water pump pulley does not line up with the alternator. Not even close. You gotta get the non-PS pulley set. (or aftermarket equivalent)
Tricky... using an AC idler pulley. You gonna get the correct pulleys when that bearing in there goes out though? Idler pulleys can be a real b!tch when they go out. Usually is at the worst time/place possible... at least my idler pulleys.

No problems yet... I also have like three extras. There not expensive and i'm cheap so the combo works for me . Frank says the pulley "requires" a wider belt. I thought the pulley on the ac clutch was what determined that. I see it as the idler pulley/bearing that allows a belt to spin. Clearly sounds like pecking so I will get a wider belt, which is what I have been intending to do anyway...
my coment for a wider belt was for the pulley in the pic. all the pulleys need to be the same... no 1 pulley dictates how wide they should be. my rule is to get the widest pulleys that i can get...this way there is less chance of slippage... ...Frank...:Handshake
the idler is another good idea, my buddy has a mass graveyard of old cars and trucks in his back forty , im a gonna have ta go shoppin me thinks and thanks for all the input jamie
