    Buy headers and a walkman

For the most bang for your buck go with the headers, Hooker and Flow Tech are about the only ones that fit correctly, but only if you have a floor shifter. No headers with column shift. Set aside some money for exhaust work too.......

Well....since you asked "what is the first thing I should do," my answer is going to be for that question, not "what is the first thing I should do for my maverick."

Put 10% 0f check in the bank and forget that you have it. Do that for every pay check. Get used to living off just 90% of your take home pay and you will be very wealthy befor you are 60.

I wish I had followed this advice.

Now, about that Maverick. Take care of the needs first, wants seconds, and hopefully some of the needs can be filled with the wants.

I second Hawko, fix the needs of the car first , then ask yourself a question.
Do I need it now, do I need it next week or next month. If the "true answer" is NO, then don't spend the money just to because it make you feel good.
Everytime I go into a store I ask myself those questions. It has saved me money if for no other reason than I found it cheaper the next day.
    Cheers.

i kick myself in the butt whenever i think of that. trying to make up for it now. 25% of my check goes in to a 401K. really wish i had started earlier. make sure all your equipment is up to snuff on the safety side also. brakes, tires, shocks etc.:)
