Mine still has some charge and seemed to work a little bit. Is it possible to get the system vaccumed and if it holds recharge with 134a? Or am i way off base? What do you all do? The ac would be nice, but i can live with out it. So any ideas?

    later chris!

Hold off on the A/C and get the rest of the car up and running good, then spend the money and get the A/C fixed properly.

i am just getting feelers on what i would have to do to fix it. So i can decide if i want to fix it, and if i do what will be involved.

Repairing the A/C can get expensive, first any leaks should be repaired, then if your going to convert from R-12 to 134-A some of the seals should be changed, and the oil in the compressor needs to be replaced with a compatable oil.
Some people have just put 134-A in R-12 systems with some luck, but to do it properly and make it last there is a correct way. As for cost, that can vary from place to place, it can get expensive if your paying someone $65/hr.
I myself don't like 134-A, and since I'm in the Commerical Air Conditioning business I've been able to play with different refrigerants, and I've found one that is a straight drop-in from R-12, but it can only be purchased in 30 lb drums.
