I've been woundering if I should lighten up my trunk by trimming down my tool boxes... I have a full rachet set (SAE & Metric) and a regular tool box with combo wrenches, pliers, vice grip, a couple hammers, screw drivers, torque wrench, hack saw, etc. plus the other stuff in there like a bottle jack, scissor jack, spare, carb and brake cleaner, etc...
I've always been of the mentality of "better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it." It would be nice to be able to use the trunk for other things as well like groceries or what ever else you use a trunk for.

So my question is what do you guys keep in the trunk to keep your car on the road?

small ratchet and socket set, phillup screwdriver, straight screwdriver, good set of plyers (channel locks preferred) and a small scissor jack....that's what id recommend.

minus a blowout, none of my mavericks have ever left me sitting on the ride of the road **knocks on wood**

I take a bag of tools for everything if I ever have any problem. It has saved me, and I have also been able to help others that are having issues on the side of the road.

Always have a screw driver inside the car -- Once had my radiator hose come flying off driving down the street and would have been screwed if I didnt have my SCREW driver lol.

I used to keep the whole works in there, but now it's trimmed town to the "just in case" stuff. A cheap socket set, couple of screwdrivers, funnel, a quart each of trans fluid and oil, an empty jug for either water or gas, a bit of wire, electrical tape, and the Gerber multi-tool that's always in my pocket. If I'm venturing out of town I will include a spare tire, jack, lug wrench and a more equipped tool box. I haven't needed any of it in a long time though, knock on wood.

Oh, and a fire extinguisher. Always a fire extinguisher in whatever I drive.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I always keep the old belts after i replace them, if one snaps I can just use the old one to get to the parts store. Instead of spending $60 for a tow.

Cheapo wrench set, pliers, and a bottle of water. She hasn't left me on the side of the road yet... Oh except for that time the fuel pump went out *beats the crap out of a tree*

I have one V belt. Set of 6 Mac pliers in pouch. Screwdriver and bits. 3/8-3/4 wrench set. It all fits in the Mac pouch. Stays in the back seat on the floor. Trunk is empty. Dont want any quarter panel damage from trunk items. Anything else happens I have my most important tool. My cellphone.

I have road side assistance on my issurance but they never told me how it works... I also have a extra ignition coil and v-belt.
I've had a starter try to fall out, at one point I went through 3 ignition coils over a couple months (accel coils... hate them), had my mallory ignition module go out once, had a tire blow-out, plus afew other things.

I was thinking of putting matching alum. battery boxes in the trunk, one for the battery the other as a small tool box....

I have a battery box, an empty nitrous bottle, and only enough room for one M/T 10.5x26 slick, which I keep as a spare tire. Luckily, never had to use it. not sure how it would work to replace a blown front tire. But it is there.

used to have a tool box with full set of metric and standard wrenches, sockets from 1/2" on down, screwdrivers, etc. It ended up in the boat.

So now, I guess I drive around with a wish and a prayer in my trunk, instead of a tool box.
