What would the Maverick look like today if it hadn't been discontinued?

    A little unsettling . . .

When you think of what kind of car the Maverick/Comet was marketed as, a very inexpensive economical, and disposable car, it makes you think what it would look like today. I was walking through the parking lot the and seen a Ford Focus and it struck me that there were quite a few of them in the parking lot, and they are marketed as economical car. I have to admit I went  on the inside! or fordbid the Ford Festiva!!!

Maybe some of you have thought about it yourselves, I really hadn't too much.

In europe, the ford escape is renamed maverick. It is kinda an economy suv.

At least the tail lights still look sort of familiar. It's kind of funny you should start this thread. The thought crossed my mind not long ago. I was wondering how one could upgrade the Maverick as we know it now to something more up to date without loosing its shape too much. I was thinking along the lines of rounding out the bodylines just a little and scrapping the chrome door handles and adding recessed ones. I also was looking at the Grabber hood scoops and tring to picture them mounted in the quarters and made functional as a way to cool the brakes. Sort of like the Mustang Mach 1's had. Get rid of the chrome bumpers and give the car a wrap around type style bumper that would match up to some built in ground affects along the sides. It's kind of hard to picture all this in my head without it ending up looking like a Mustang. It should still be Maverick in the end. So much to think about! I suppose it would be easier to put down on paper like the designers do.

Be nice to the Focus! I own a Focus Hatchback and it is a joy to drive. Sure, it doesn't have all the power of a growling V8, but it's got spunk and it is nimble on its toes.

But back on subject, I kinda think the Maverick would have evolved into something more like the Ford Contour. Mid-sized car with an inline-6 as standard. Isn't that what most Mavericks had when they were still being made?

I think the Focus could be thought of as a modern day Maverick. I also think Ford had the same intent for what the Focus would be used for. Its the only Ford car availible in 2door or 4door! Horspower range is from about 110 to 170('05). Sport models are availible. Of course, there was no Maverick stationwagon that I know of. The Tempo/Topas was also a smialiar Maverick. You could ger a 2door Tempo. Take the '05 V6 Mustang. draw an '04 top on it. Add sport lamps, remove the horse and draw the word Maverick. Revise the hood to look like Grabber or vintage Maverick and then restyle the tail lamps and then you will have an 2005 Ford Maverick!! The 4door would take a little more thought.

That old European Maverick makes me think of a Festiva on a Bronco II frame.

Funny how car companies recycle names and ideas around.

it may be a blessing that they don't make them anymore. chevy destroyed the nova , well not that it matters.... ford/mercury probably never thought of them as muscle cars... but if we are going to dream, mercury really needs to bring the comet back. ford has the mustang and mercury can have the comet(not that i'm biased toward comets) it can look similar to the new mustangs and have the cobra motor..... and they can give me one cuz i'm a really nice guy and..... oh sorry i guess i dozed off... i was having a very nice dream.....
