So I went to autozone today to buy 10w-40 Castrol GTX Oil for my Maverick, and the price was 5.59 A qt. or something close to that. So I didn't buy it yet (waiting for replies to a previous post) but I went to the dollar store for something completely different and I found 10w-40 Castrol GTX for 4.44 a Qt.... How does this make sense, or is it too good to be true? haha
A lot of times, part retailers will run specials on oil and filters. A higher initial price makes the "deals" seem a lot better. Dollar stores tend to not feature oil in any deals, so the price will pretty much stay competitive all the time. Sometimes you need to look at online vs in-store pricing being different in the same retail chain. I am frequently seeing two sets of pricing, both ways, depending on the store. Staples will have lower online prices and will relent and give you the lower price when you call them on it in person. PetSmart will tell you to go fly a kite, that their online world and brick-and-mortar stores are two entirely differing realities. This stuff happens in the auto parts business, too. I like shopping at Advance Auto, but online prices are frequently higher, and then they present you with an easy 20% or whatever discount. Muddies the water a bit, but I usually feel like the end price is a bit better in online orders.
