Will a 1976-77 Gas Tank fit in a 1973 Mav?

    I need a new gas tank and the local auto shop can order a 76-77 tank. Will that bolt up to me 1973 Mav?

    Yes, but you will need to get the correct straps for it.

    Theres a little more than just the strap issue. The 76-77 tank uses a different vent than the 73. You will have to get a grommet and vent nipple from Ford. Part#s are in my article. The tank does not have a taper in the back to tuck under the valance panel. So it hangs down below it and may rub on the bottom edge of the panel. This is easily fixed by carefully bowing out the panel slightly just by hand pressure. Lastly, the 76-77 tank has a larger capicity. If you use your 73 sending unit, you will have about 3 gallons that you wont be able to suck out when your near empty.
