Max; I have a 69.5, with a bench seat. I put in a shifter from a '67 Mustang, and it works just fine, but the handle is curved back, so I have a hard time getting to low gear. I think the Cougar shifter is about the same. I have secured a Pinto shifter with a straight shifter handle, and I am working on putting that one in. It is a bit bigger, and doesn't look as clean, but it should give me more functionality. I will let you know. Hope this helps.
