Floor shift/Bench seat?

right now i have a column shift/bench seat in my 72 2 door. i have a floor shifter, from a 72 cougar. i was wondering if it was the same as a maverick C4 shifter? i think this shifter was originally attached to either an FMX or C6 transmission. i just wondered if it was compatible? obviously i will have to cut a hole in the floor board for this shifter. without any alterations to the shifter and linkages... will this shifter clear the existing bench seat?
