How i got my comet was that i was working for Sears Monitering
[sercurity system call center like ADT] and a girl that worked with me took her car to the sears service center to have her brakes checked out because they were "spongey" [she went there because another co-worker of ours' son worked there and she felt that she could trust them]. Well guess what she comes to me after she's bought a new Saturn informing me that she was selling the comet for $500 [67,000 actual miles w/t near mint interior] but since she knew i always admired it and would take good care of it while everone else thought it was an ugly outdated heap she told me i could have it for $350! I said why what's wrong with it? She then tells me that Sears tells her that the car has a bad wheel cylinder and gave her a list of brake parts that needed replacing [which was every brake component underneath the car including drums and lines!] and tells her it will cost her $800 to have this done! I tell her that I ain't no expert but there ain't $800 worth of brake parts on the whole damn car but if you're willing to sell it to me i'll take it. I purchase the car, buy a wheel cylinder, and i take it to a trusted shade tree mechanic i know. He allows me to watch and learn and it turned out that the wheel cylinders were fine [they were dirty but dry with no leaking fluid], it was the master cylinder! The one brake component that sears didn't even list! I took the wheel cylinders back bought about a $20 master cylinder from Autozone [which i now regret but that's another story] gave the shade tree $35 bucks for the install and bleeding and i was on the road! I felt bad for the girl [since the car had belonged to her grandmother before she got it] and told her how she got taken by sears but i reassured her her comet was now in good hands!
