what are the symptoms of a fuel pump about to go out? ..................... My experience. It starts to cause the engine to run out of fuel at higher RPM because the carb bowl is not being filled enough. Will run ok at lower speeds, then gradually the failure becomes worse. The failure can be dirt in the valves, diaphram failure or somthing gone wrong with the actuating arm. Theres not much to them. Some units have filters in them that can block up.
