I'm sure they can produce problems the symptoms stated although it has been my experience that they either work or don't. I had a Bronco that loved to just cut out and start right back up. It took me awhile to figure it out but it turned out to be an original 2" piece of rubber hose with the factory clamps under the truck, half way to the rear. The clamps had enough pressure that it would'nt leak but not enough to prevent it from sucking air.
