The linkage from the electric choke (the little plastic part that links the arms together) was broken and the part long gone on a 77 ford 302 two bbl. the part staore said they don't stock that part and recommended a holly...... having rebuilt the motercraft carb.. I am not sure i am ready to abandon it yet?? I have to fix the car soon or my wife is going to try and make me sell it, as work might move me to idaho again>........help !!!!any sug. or if holly is a good carb>?? sam,
i know there will be several to dispute my opinion..
but a holley carb is a piece of junk! i used to use nothing but holley's. however, they are unreliable and need retuning EVERY single time weather conditions change. its been an expensive lesson, but i wouldnt have a holley carb (unless its a factory holley) for anything other than "race only" applications.
if all that is wrong with your motorcraft is the electric choke.. why dont you just install a manual choke? you can get a kit for $7-8. i really prefer a manual choke, anyhow. you can listen to your engine and give it what you hear it needs.
if you should go for a new carburetor... i strongly recommend an edelbrock carb. its is sooooo easy to tune, its more responsive, and it is reliable. once you get it dialed in, it stays put. (unlike a holley)
good luck. id try to make your existing motorcraft work. seems like the cheapest/easiest fix is to simply replace the electric choke with a manual.
