:=what is your best guess why my engine basically dies at 5800 rpm's. i have a built cleveland in a 71 grabber. bored .040 over, balanced, forged pistons, electronic ignition, torker intake, bigs performance 850 dbl. pumper, 4.11 rear. lunati cam with 224/234 @ .050 536/566 lift. i don't know if i'm running out of fuel or what but when i run the car.....i could hold it in low and it will basically hold at 5900 rpm's. i think it should run to 6500-7000 no problem. i have a stock carter mechanical fuel pump and i'm wondering if i should go to a high performance electric or mechanical. any other ideas out there. post here or email. thanks for any advice, David

David, the cam you have has a power band of 2000 to 6000 Rpm and is hydraulic lifter operated. Being hydraulic, those lifters won't run 6500 because of pump up. The cam stops pulling at 6000.
Your carb is to large. If your looking to turn 7000 for drag racing then a carb around 700 + cfm is enough. A change to a solid lifter cam with more duration would be in order.
At the present time its not the ignition that is limitng but would start to become a problem over 6500. You need to rethink your setup and what you want it to do.
