Ken,
Actually the lower compression is one of the things I found appealing about my '79 block. The 8.1:1 compression is just right for me to mount a (show) 6-71 blower on it with 5psi of boost. According to my figures it should raise the compression to 9.5:1, add roughly 73hp and still be totally streetable on pump gas. My understanding is that running high compression with a supercharger is generally a bad idea Regards, Tracy P.S. I'm running TRW forged pistons, Lunati cam and a mains stiffener so I figure I'll be ok running a low 5psi of boost. Eye Candy with a little extra performance ;) .................................. You need to go at least 8 lbs to make it worthwhile! There is a (general rule) that goes something like this... effective compression = (boost/14.7 + 1) X cr or in your case (5/17.7 +1) X 8 = effective cr of 10.75 or the boost of 5 = the same power level that a cr of 10.75 would give without charging. The Mustangs of today are running boost levels of 10 and 12 lbs on 9;1 motors but one must be prudent and run ignition retard controls along with it. Ken |
