what is your best guess why my engine basically dies at 5800 rpm's. i have a built cleveland in a 71 grabber. bored .040 over, balanced, forged pistons, electronic ignition, torker intake, bigs performance 850 dbl. pumper, 4.11 rear. lunati cam with 224/234 @ .050 536/566 lift. i don't know if i'm running out of fuel or what but when i run the car.....i could hold it in low and it will basically hold at 5900 rpm's. i think it should run to 6500-7000 no problem. i have a stock carter mechanical fuel pump and i'm wondering if i should go to a high performance electric or mechanical. any other ideas out there. post here or email. thanks for any advice, David

hey david,
ive owned a few clevelands. i havent owned a single one that was comfortable revving up to 6000 rpm.
as much as id love to defend the cleveland, it had some flaws.
my last cleveland was supposed to be somewhat of a hotrod. however, it had the goofiest powerband. about 2500 to 4500 rpm, then it went flat. that midrange was awesome! no doubt would shame a windsor. unfortunately, they are sooo spongy in the bottom end due to the massive intake ports. (not tractable)
and they really dont rev out that far. you can get more rpm's out of a windsor.
your engine is a dinosaur. i know its a quite capable engine, but it will require some creativity and luck to get everything out of it. in a maverick, it could/should be awesome.
i guess my point is...
dont expect ultra revability out of it. big blocks dont normally rev out as far as a small block anyhow.
just concentrate on making power from 0-5800 rpms if thats all its capable of.
