Hi all,
I just put in a 1990 5.0 in my 73 Maverick. It was originally equipped with a 302 so there was not much to change except the flexplate to allow it to adapt to the C4. Anyway, the only problems I was facing were the power steering hoses and the a/c hoses. The return hose was easy to install on the new steering pump, since like the original, it slips on the nipple coming out of the bottom of the pump and tightes with a hose clamp. The other was a problem... or so I thought. It turns out that if you unscrew the metal tubing that came out of the pump (old one)it will screw into the outlet on the 1990 pump! So much easier! Perfect fit also! Now I don't have to get new hoses, and whenever I need some, I just order them for a Maverick! Hope this helps someone, since it sure was a big relief for me! Now all I need to do is get the engine runnung, put exhaust on it, (duals hidden up underneath, with 40 series-2 chamber Flowmasters, Hedman Headers) do the body work, get it painted (2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Everglade Green Pearlcoat). Then I will attack the interior. It has the LDO option and I am keeping the interior basically stock except for a floor shift automatic(1967 Mustang) and a couple Stewart Warner gauges along with an 1972 Sun Super Tach that was in my brother's 1971 F250. I plan to put 15x7 Torque Thrust Wheels on it. I will also tint the windows. It looks bad right now, since it is all stripped and everything, but when I am done it will look great. An original Grabber Hood (I got it for $40 bucks!! Great shape!), and Grabber spoiler help enhance the image. And people say Maverick are piles! What do they know? They will give lots of cars a run for their money! Oh yeah, I also converted to 71 Bumpers. Well here is the scoop on my Maverick and sorry for such a long post.
