YOU ARE CORRECT, Most of the one's i've found are the hatchback models with the 4 speed trans and V-6 engines. There have been a few in the v-8 models also though I found a v-6 four speed with a non locker unit in it also. I guess it depends on who ordered the car and what options they wanted. If you can get underneath with no problem, look on the rear end tag. It will have "3L55" on the code. If both wheels are off the ground, spin the tires and see if both wheels spin in the same direction. If opposite it's just a open rear though if you find one with a 3:25 or 3:55 ratio, I wouldn't pass it up.
MT := I've found posi rearends in V-6 & V-8 mustangII cars. Sometimes you're lucky enough to find one with a 3:55 ratio. They're normally in the V-6 cars. Most of them are donor cars for streetrods but there are a few left in wrecking yards, most with the front ends gone. They normally leave the rearend because the 4 bolt rear is not popular but, the pumpkin will interchange with all the 8" Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlanes & Mavericks. Good luck with your hunt. |
