You're definetly headed in the right direction.

You can easily increase the compression ratio without replacing the pistons. If you purchase some good after-market heads and cam, you'll have come a long way towards your goal, and beyond.

Getting more horse power isn't a problem. It's directly proportional to what you're willing to spend (heads, cam, exhaust - dare I say "forced induction"?).
