If you want to go to electronic ignition without the hassle of wiring summit has a pertronix solid state ignition system that takes the place of the points and it works sweet and you can install it in minutes.
Headers with a good exhaust system, and while you have the bottom end apart, put in a wingage tray and better oilpan. New oil pump with a stronger oilpump drive shaft.
Put in roller bearing rocker arms with polylocks. Good double roller timing gears/chain, & HiPo mech fuel pump.
Even a Ford elecronic ignition will help also.
Little stronger cam and lifters, but by then you might as well rebuild the engine. With new pistons/rings you'll need to hone the cylinders for a good ring seal.
