If I understand your question correctly, in order to put the retractable belt in from a 1974, you would have to cut out an area out in order to recess the "spool" of the belt. This can be easier said than done. I suggest you look for retractable belts out of a 1973 Mav/Comet. They don't have to be recessed.

=====================================
I have a 71 2Door Maverick. I have a set of black retractable belts from a 74 2Door that I want to swap into my 71. Will I need to drill and tap new holes? My seatbelts (I call them the "Three Point Harness") have only one attaching bolt in the floorboard, where the newer retractable need three bolts. Any help will be appriciated!
Jason
