should be about a 1/16" in it. might be a washer missing. Just use a washer were the snap ring stops the endplay.
Take all the shift linkage out of the column. Just make sure if you have a locking column device, to remove/disable the locking feature that the shift linkage does.

I'm pulling apart my steering column to gut it of all of it's column shifter parts (3 speed - switching to an auto C-4 on the floor)and I was wondering how much end play there should be. It seems like ther is a lot. I still have the spacer and snap ring in place and the shaft seems to move toward the steering wheel about a 1/4 of an inch or more. Is this normal? Also I was told all of the shifter linkage ahs to come out is this true? I'm already half way there so I might as well clean it out. Just wondering if I didn't gut it, would there be any problems? Thanks! Mike
