It was not functional, it was there only for looks. It can easily be made functional by cutting a hole in your hood and using an air cleaner that protrudes up into the scoop. This is how I have it on my car. Thanks. Do you know where i could get a new Merc hood emblem. Did any other Mercs use the same one? Mine has that spider web effect going on on the clear part. I may have to remove it and fill the holes. It's hard to find front end components for the Comet. Junkyards full of Mav's but no Comets.
