2 Newbie Questions

    Everybody is talking about steering column shifter and floor shifter, I have an automatic btw is there a difference and when it comes to parts will it matter?

    Also when I was driving her home I put my hand between the seats and it was HOT. Not like burning the carpet hot but hot compared to well I guess new cars. I just assumed/figured its old probably the exhuast is right below and its normal. Not worried about it to much just wanted to know it that is normal. Thanks for all the input and help yall

    Original 72 Sprint Owner, 71 Comet GT, 57 Ranchwagon, 57 4 dr Wagon
    Only difference in the columns is the collar where the shifter comes out. There is a mounting nub on the column shifter and its smooth on the floor shifted. All parts interchange between columns.

    I have felt very warm drive shaft tunnels due to heat from the exhaust and air comming off the engine.
