so i finally decided i want the 351 in my 4 door in my 2 door, the 4 door already has shaved shock towers, my 2 door does not. i was wandering if i can just unbolt the shock towers from the 4 door and put them in my 2 door.

also does anyone know if the unisteer rack and pinion bolt on kit will work with a 351

Better to trim the towers in the 2 door. Unless you enjoy cutting spotwelds and such to change em out...

should i just try to sell the 351 and use the money to get a 302 with some performance parts. i got a ride in a 440 1970 roadrunner today (what a treat!!) and that left me wanting more power in my maverick. id really like the idea of the 351 in my car

ive heard some people put a 351 without trimming the towers, is that an option. i understand sparkplug changes are gonna be pretty fun if i went that route

i really want my maverick to be a beast, my friends and i are having a small contest with our cars and i refuse to be beaten by a 75' dodge dart and a (cringes) 92' buick roadmaster stationwagon.

I ran a 351W and unmodified shock towers for many years. Changing the spark plugs was about the same challenge as with the 302. Pulling a cylinder head on the 351 was a different matter. I would have to pull the engine in order to remove a cylinder head.

I now run a modified 302 that is far quicker than my 351. I will not go back to a 351W. There is just something exciting about beating up on a big block whatever with a little 302 in a stock appearing unsung Maverick or Comet!!!!! :yup:

It will fit...I would run the 4 door just to embarrass them all. Nothing like getting your butt handed to you by a 4 door, let alone a maverick 4 door.

You can put the 351 in without modifying the shock towers. You will probably need to lift the engine to change plugs. Exhaust is also going to require custom work. Even if you try to use stock manifolds, the drivers side will hit the steering box.

Whichever car you decide to go with , if you do a 351 , I would suggest at least ' trimming ' the shock towers to allow for a decent set of Headers . I've done both, and if you REMOVE the shock towers you'll be way ahead when you DO want to change the plugs or reach other parts up front. If you have the engine OUT it's a great time to do the Tower Work whether you Trim OR Remove ! Just my opinion .. and we all have one. I wish you success in your project.

the 4 door is too far stripped of parts i used on the 2 door, but i was thinking of rebuilding it once
