Best Fitting/Performing headers for 72 302 maverick ?

    I have heard a lot of stories of people who buy headers and they just do not fit these cars. Can you guys direct me towards the brands/types that do fit the 302 maverick ? I plan on doing exhaust from the header down asap.

    If you`ll do a search of the forums here you`ll get all of the info and Part numbers about headers you could want. 6901`s do fit well for me also.

    definitly hooker comps 6901.fit like a glove.

    as an afterthought, does anyone know if these will also work with GT40P heads?

    6901's here.
    I am apparantly the only one with this problem, but I lost a bit of left turn radius. pitman arm hits header tube.

    Looks like I will be buying the 6901's since you all say they are pretty cool. I have tried a few brands and they never fit the car. I hope these fit! If not i'm pretty sure Summit Racing will take them back.

    Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
    but remember if you change to an aftermarket head. you might need to change the header.. due to 7 and 8 spark plug too close to the header. will cause problems with wires burning

    i've got the 6901's also but i also put the hot boots on the wires. they are available from summit for about $52 a set.:)

    Maverick Man is right with some of the aftermarket heads #7 and #8 have limited spark plug room. I tried to use a set of World Products JR's that I have and the Hooker 6901's would not clear. Even with short plugs the boot would be up against the tubes. My new AFR Heads should be here Friday.

    But I think that the Hooker 6901's are the way to go.

    I have the hedman headers -- the elite version for the Maverick with trick flow twisted wedge heads. You can not use a column shifter and you have to relocate the power steering arm lower(actually pretty low) and I still had to dent the tube that passes over the power steering control valve. Other than those 2 points they fit well and I can turn the steering without and interference, are a bit cheaper than hookers, and do not toast my ignition wires.

    I wanted coated headers as mine does compete in shows and I think coated hookers had to be special ordered and were in the $600 zone.
    I paid under $300 for mine.

    I hated to loose my column shifter but now really like the B&M.

    Factory coated Hooker 6901's are $330 from Summit. You can also contact Jet Hot and purchase a set of coated 6901's from them for $330

    I think I was the first one on here with the 6901's. Best fitting header in my 30 years of playing with these cars. I Taylor wires and never had a problem with fried wires.
