i have a 600 cfm Holley on my 302. My car starts well when cold. Usually stumbles and dies after running for 5 or 6 seconds. Then fires right back up and runs well. Here is the problem. If I try to start the engine hot, I need to go to wide open throttle to fire the engine. My engine is electronic ignition, mechanical fuel pump. What do I need to look at to solv the hard start when hot issue?
Long crank times when hot, necessitating holding throttle at WOT generally indicates a flooded condition... Generally issue is fuel percolation caused by too high of float level, can also be aggravated by lack of insulator under carb...
Also check to see what the choke (if it's an automatic unit) is doing. If it's got a manual choke, check to see that the butterfly is open. If it is manual and you didn't hook it up, it should be either removed altogether or wired open. Me? I remove them completely and use the go pedal to warm it up when needed.
ok, in order to adjust the choke, I loosen the 3 screws around the round black plastic pod with the electrospring inside, rotate the pod to open the choke fully when engine is hot. anything else? is this method correct?
That procedure may disable the choke all together. It is best to set the choke with the engine cold. Check out this 3 minute youtube video for a simple process. https://search.yahoo.com/search;_yl...=mss&ei=UTF-8&p=how to set an automatic choke
