Okay so here is my back story, the car was running fine then it started to not start everytime I stopped and then it started to cut out if I didn't keep my revs up, so I found out it was the battery cables and alternator I replaced both and now all it does is turn over (perfectly and with enough power) but it won't fire, the negative cable is grounded to the motor, so my question is if it's not grounded to the frame will it cause this? Or is it something else because she ran fine for so long so I think it's electrical not mechanical
its something else. did you replace the starter solenoid? if so their are 2 small post on the front of the solenoid. one is marked S and the other I. the post has the wire that comes from the switch and triggers the solenoid. the I post has a wire that goes to the coil and provided full battery voltage to the coil during cranking. if this wire is not hooked up then that could cause it not to start. Could you have missed one of the wires that goes to the hot post on the solenoid?
check to see if you have spark while cranking. easy way is to take the coil wire off the distributor and lay it on something metal with about 1/4 to 1/2" gap between the contact end of the wire and the metal. spark should jump the gap when cranking.
Okay it started right up when I just tried it but then I went to turn the car off and it just kept running...
Does the oil light stay on when your car keys are in you pocket or when the key is turned in the run position? If you disconnect the wire going to the oil pressure sending unit the light will stay on with the engine running. The solenoid that I replace a month or two ago was only 4 months old. When I first bought my Maverick I went through 2 new fuel pumps in 2 months. The 3rd fuel pump is 6 years old.
Haha sorry I know it's suppose to but I mean when the key is out and the tumbler is in the off position
