Do I have to drop the gas tank to remove the sending unit. In other words is there clearance to get out without tank removal.

no...there is clearance, make sure the tank is empty, best to pull the tire off.

Thanks a lot. I'm going to have to get the wrench on line. Way to tight. Any ideas?

Jack up that side of the car while you do it.

A screwdriver and a hammer will get the "ring" off.

That is why there is Harbor Freight. Don't you see all the coupons they have for a FREE 6-piece screwdriver set? :D
