I have a 1973 Maverick that was produced (according to the door sticker) in 2/73. I purchased the lock cylinder appropriate for my car, which looks identical to the old one I removed. my issue is that when I put the lock cylinder in run position to depress the pin for installation, the end of the cylinder (triangle shape) does not match up with the corresponding notch in the column? has anyone had this issue? Can the notch in the column be rotated to match the lock cylinder? Thank you for any advice you can give.
You likely have incorrect lock. Per Ford Master Parts, lock changed 5/14/73 Part number before 5/14 is D2AZ-11582B(quick replace SW1114). From 5/14 number is D4AZ-11582A(quick replace SW1191)
Same shape, just seems to be turned different directions. Here is a picture of inside the column and one of the key lock in the run position.
I believe I got the correct lock. The car was built in Feb of 73 and I got the early style lock. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Ugh!
I thought you needed to be in the accessory position to depress the tab. It's been a very long time since I took one apart so those memories could be miles from the truth though.
Thank you for the picture. I had to actually use a screwdriver to turn the notch in the column so it would line up correctly with the notch on the key lock when in run position.
I've had several over the years that screwdriver was the key. Taking pict was hard part, I couldn't get inside car so holding light and phone from left was challenging. Steering wheel already loose, key in the ignition, that was easy peasy.
