Only thing i've done before was take the driver seat out of one foxbody and put it in my foxbody.

I need new seats in my maverick though, I have a bench seat in a parts car thats okay... but I want buckets.

Do the universal seats from jegs or summit usually fit? Do I re-use my original frame rails?

Again, no experience with ordering seats and I'd like the seats to just fit with no modifications.

The hard part is the seat tracks. The floors in our cars are like a very wide "V" if view from the front.... and that slopes a bit, deeper toward the back of the seat. The inboard seat track needs to be elevated about 1.5 inches in the rear to be level with the outboard track. It needs a riser that is closer to 1" in the front. These stats are for 71- 74 floors. 1970 floors have a smaller trans tunnel, and I suspect the floor may be a little different yet. 1975-up had a bulge in the floor for catalytic converter space and an odd seat track arrangement.

Do a search here. I have pictures of several varieties of factory seat tracks here. You will get an idea about the risers that were used.

Ford bucket seats used the same track to seat bolt pattern for many cars for 30+ years. If you score original Mav seat tracks, many will bolt up. Aftermarket will probably be different. Check out this tech article, from the board here for ideas ....

It looks like the OP has a '70. My '70 originally came with a bench seat, too, I don't think buckets were an option as the floor pan has no raised portions near the trans tunnel. I've had to reinforce the floor and weld standoffs to the seat tracks when I installed buckets.

My '70 was different evidently. There are no provisions in the floor pan for buckets. Mine was built in June 1970.

Do you know when in 1970 your car was built?

Exactly right - '70 floors are different as buckets were not offered until '71 and there is no raised mounting "pad" next to the tunnel for the inner seat track.

When my wife bought her 71 Grabber new in 71 it came with a bench seat. Buckets were a separate option.

Hmm... Im going to have to check under the seats when i get off work. The guy I bought it from said the original owner turned it into a grabber clone.

Clone or real grabber - all 1970 cars came with a bench seat, grabber included.

The bucket seat floor pans started in 1971 and have the raised part in the red circle in this picture.

Still an easy fix for 1970 floors. Just need to reinforce that part of the pan to handle the weight and stop the flexing which would lead to floor failure. Also using a spacer to get the right height so the seat is level.

sorry for the long wait, looked at the seats a few weeks back and they were modified to fit.
i'm thinking i'll just start shopping for some universal seats or seats for mustangs. I read they used the same seat rails back then so those should fit easily.
