It seems like Val is having the same problem as me. Mine does have 3 stands, I may try popping it out and trying again.
Look at post 10.. See if you fall in the criteria.. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=98145&highlight=glass Edit: I just looked and see that you posted #12 in that thread
New thought... I removed it tonight, and I had cleaned the outside real good, but there was still a good amount of sticky butyl on the inside. I think that may have been preventing the gasket from rolling in all the way, keeping the windshield from seating. I cleaned it good, and thinking about lubing the pinch weld and gasket with Vaseline first. Going to try tomorrow.
How? I watched a glass guy use some and it was ooy gooy till it set up a few hrs later.. He said it would fully cure in 24 to 48 hrs but suggested not pressure washing for at least 72 hrs.
This stuff is 30 years old and has never cured, maybe it's not butyl. It is stringy, gooey stuff that is worse than chewing gum on a hot sidewalk.
Oh. Your talking about the old stuff. I'm suggesting to use new butyl in a tube that fits a caulk gun. I'm not sure what the old stuff is but your right. It's some nasty stuff.
don't know if that would be a good idea or not. it may keep the sealant from ahearing to the gasket/pinch well...
Cleaned everything up, lubed the rope, hosed everything down with glass cleaner. The bottom went in real easy, started doing the side, noticed I cracked it.... Gave up, put my old one back in. Seems to fit like the other, no better. I give up.
