I found a 73 cougar/Mustang steering column. Would that fit in my 73 comet?

While it's similar in construction, would surprise me if length is same... Mounting between dash and firewall is likely different as well as length from dash mount to steering wheel... The distance from steering coupler(rag joint) to firewall is also likely different...

Diameter of the tube may be different as well, the Maverick column is pretty petite.

Let me add to the confusion. I had a 75 Maverick factory column shift automatic. When I converted it to floor shift I used the two top collar pieces from a 71 - 73 Mustang column, as they did not have the shift indicator or mounting hole for the column shift lever, on the factory Maverick column without issue. However, without careful measurements, I bet Tom is probably correct regarding the length differences.
