True. Mine was a performer 289/1"spacer/holley 4160. The air cleaner had a drop base also, which was the reason why i needed the spacer. Before i had a generic 14x3 with no spacer and it cleared fine.
The pertronix swap is just so simple and clean, that's why I was asking.. I'm going to call them and see if it fits... They only list up to 74 for the ford, I'm guessing early 74 might still be points... I have a new 74 module to use if I have to.. Also have a msd 6al box too... Just want reliable daily driving... Thanks for the feed back, keep it coming I learn more every day.....
pertronix is only desgined to replace points. if you have a duraspark dizzy then they wont have a product for that.
Never had any problems with any cross firing with a small cap and the big one's are just plan UGLY and don't fit the theme of early model and many guy's are going back to the small cap including MSD just because of clearance problems and no benefits to a large cap. Here is MSD's latest version we just used on a customers car.
the reason for the biger cap is so that there is more space between the posts to lower the possibility of crossfires to the neiboring post. also it allows for larger spark curves before the potental of crossfireing to the next post. so there is a benifit to the biger cap. i just depends on if you need it or not and most cars do not.
I have seen some 74 with points also. I think that was the transitioning year. But i also got my setup to convert my 200 to electronic from a 74 maverick.
The radio interferance is determined more by the number of sparks and their intensity - not how close together they are in relation to each other. I also gap my plugs close to keep the voltage down which will reduce the intensity of the em emissions. The advance mechanism on a Ford distributor is hidden under the breaker plate - this has no bearing on the DS II distributor. My advance is limited to 12 degrees so I won't have to worry about getting too close to the other "pins" and cross firing. I think I can use the smaller cap without issues - it is worth trying.
Duraspark was an option in 74 (or is was on emission equipped cars, I don't remember), just find yourself a points distributor, and do the Pertronix upgrade.
