250I6 rebuild

    I can't think of any reason the spring shouldn't sit against the spring stop...:hmmm:
    did you replace/reinstall the top insulator?

    In my case when I installed my new drop springs, I was a rookie and didn't notice the spring moved a little...:(

    Because the end of the factory spring has a straight section that goes to the stop. It gets cut off leaving it ending with a curve. The perch isnt shaped that way and if you put the end against the stop it makes the spring sit crooked. See pic off cut spring.

    I am thinking it will be ok with the six cyl. Do you know the specs of the other springs you have?
    I have a stripped control arm. I put a couple of 1/2" welds on it once it was in the arm correctly.

    No specs on the other springs. One set is from a small bumper 250 car without ac, the other is a big bumper 250 car with ac.

    I removed the right side upper control arm from a 72 parts car and it was good. Actually still had grease in one side. I got the right side put back together so all 4 wheels are on the ground again. It is sitting 3/4" lower than when I started. Keep in mind that the entire drive train is out along with both fenders, hood, grill and big bumper. I have been using the front bumper support to step into the engine during all my work. When my 250lb butt did that before the cutting, the car didn't budge much at all. Now when I do that it drops about an inch. I still think its going to drop too low for my taste but its ok. I will install the springs from the small bump car, measure and remove them. Make a small and put them back. It will take a little time but I will get it right. Below I have a pic of the springs from 2 different cars side by side. Not what I would have expected.

    It's hard to tell from this pic, but the spring on the left is my 74 200 no ac car, the spring on the right is from a 72 250 no ac. I was surprised that the 72 spring is shorter than mine.

    Now it's time to service the c4. I might be able to drop the drive train back in this weekend if I'm lucky with parts. But April 1st is my goal for getting the engine buttoned up and running. That leaves 2 months to fine tune and do a few body repairs. :thumbs2:

    Next phase of this "one thing leaves to another" project....the transmission. I had it rebuilt around 06-07 I think. I dont believe it has a lot of miles on it but I would like to do a little maintenance while its out. i have my c4 and the one that was bolted up to the 250 that Im putting in the car. I have zero experience with automaitics and watched a lot of you tube videos. So I am comfortable doing a few things. My tranny has several leaks so o rings and gaskets need replaced. The toughest is the gear selector seal because I need to remove the valve body. Today I got things tore down as far as they need to go. Im no expert but I believe everything inside like clutch packs and bands are ok. I have a green line modulator so thats fine and I pulled the forward servo to check it out. I read about a condition I was having and it suggested an incorrect servo. My servo is a "b", I pulled the servo in the other tranny and it is also a "b" so Im good there. Tomorrow I will order everything I need along with a new torque converter.

    Got the transmission put back together this afternoon. Didnt do anything drastic, I replaced the forward servo seals and gasket, modulator o ring, gear selector seal and kick down o ring, dip stick and speedo o ring, filter and gasket. Installed the bigger bell housing and picked up new torque converter. Also bought a rebuild kit for the carb that used to be on this engine. This bad boy is about ready to go back in. Hope to pull it of the garage underits own power before next wedkend! :dance:

    Been sittin here thinkin about the transmission. The pump came loose and was wiggling around as I worked on it and I got concerned about the gasket under it. Also, it doesnt lock into park like the spare tranny does. I just rewatched the c4 videos and Im comfortable pulling the pump and replacing the gasket. Im also going to pull the tail section and see if I can access the area where there may be a problem. Wish I had more time, I would tear it all down and rebuild it. The video is excellent.
