what about the oild pan, am I right in thinking that a double sump pan will not clear the steering linkages or the cross member?

Yes you will need a front sump oil pan from an early 289 or a 302. You will need the timing cover , dip stick , the fuel pump cam from the front of the timing chain and if you are not gunna use headers you will also need the exhaust manifolds as well .

right, I have a brand new ford racing timing cover, I'll probably get a flexible stainless dip stick, just so I don't run into problems, thanks for reminding me abou tthe cam, (used to efi), need a new timing set anyway, any recomendations? I still need to have my heads done, re gasket my carb, and such, just trying to make a mental note of what I need to order

When I had to replace the timing chain in my mothers van I just got a cheap (15 bux) dual roller timing chain from the parts store.

I don`t know how high in the rpms I`ve had the engin but I had the van up to 120 mph so it was reving purdy darn high ;) and no problems yet.

LOL, it's a Fram on top of that!

I used Fram filters for years without any problems until I started hearing all the bad stuff about them. I only run Motorcraft now.

haha speaking of oil filters... MOtorcraft does make a GMC filter for 88-2000 350.... I didnt want to put a cheapo, don't like delco filters, and will not run a fram. They make them... Thats the ONLY thing they fit. haha
Anyways, hope you do well w/ your swap

you guys running 302's with auto trannys, what is being used, or what can be done to a C4 to make it a halfway decent runner, I may keep the auto for quite a while, the manual swap is going to be a job and a half I think, may hold off for a while. What other trannys can I swap in to the car and maybe have o/d without too much work. I can physically have the engine in the car this week, and running in a few:drink:
    Thanks
    Shaun

The easiest overdrive to put in wou.d be the AOD. No computor to worry about. Pretty easy installation that has been discussed quite a bit in other posts. Might want to do a search on it.
The main things to watch for are getting the right balance flex plate and getting the TV cable set up right.
