So from what i'm gathering i should hold out for a 302. I am looking for faster. I thought that the 351w would be a faster stock engine.

that advantage to the 302 is that its an easier fit. more displacment=more power but stock hp #'s of 302's and 351's vary alot over their history. so without saying what year each motor is and what heads, intake and cam thay have you really cant compare "stock" numbers. theres stock 302s out there that make more HP then stock 351's and vice versa

Umm. I would think a 351 would bring nothing more than more torque and slightly more horsepower dolar for dolar

The C4 behind the 250 is usually - - built the same as the 302 C4s.
Check what the big letter on the front band is - if it is an "A" then it will have the five / four clutch configuration in it just like the 302. All you will need to do is add an auxillary cooler and a 40-2 TransGo reprogramming kit in the valve body.
(assuming that the C4 is in good to excellent condition)

the towers need to be notched to allow you to change the plugs.it also makes header fitment a bit better.

A 351W will give you 16% more torque and HP mod for mod. Anything you can do to the 302 you can do to the 351W. The 351W will not require notching the shock towers but it does make life livable. The 302 is an easier fit and makes it easier to service. If you build a 300 HP 302 then for about the same money you can build a 350 HP 351 doing the same mods.
