has anyone ever tried to use a ford taurus rear mount rack and pinion on there maverick and kept the stock suspension i am thinking of going this route to save money...thanks Barry
Generally a rack and pinion will not have the travel needed to work with a reciprocating ball type steering spindle. You'd have to decrease the length of the tie rod mounting point on the spindle to the get the wheels to turn the same amount. If you don't mind the tires not turning as far lock to lock, then it doesn't matter. Just makes parking kind of time consuming.
well the MII front end is here i have a rod and custom set up it is a quality piece im taking two weeks off now to install it ill post pics along the way as well as ease of installation or problems i encur thanks for all the help i only hope i can pass along some info to help others as well i will also be filming the process ......Barry
Oh yea today i installed the crossmember and passenger side suspension set up the only trouble i ran into is that the instructions lack a little when it comes to the brake set up but after trial and error i worked it out ...........
Well i offered the 460 up to the mav today and after 3 hours it finally made it into the engine bay i do not know how it will come out but it is in as for the instruction from R&C i guess they are for small block installs as i had to modify the engine mounts on the drivers side to fit around the steering shaft..As you can see the valve cover is quite close to the master..i will have to either move it over to the fender or install an under dash unit i will work that out later...tomorrow i will make up the tranny mount
