6.1L ford dump truck motor

    I agree....

    ...even if you are on a budget. I've seen this with Chevrolets.

    I've seen too many 396/427/454's outrun by well tuned 350/383's.
    I think you would be close to that situation with a worked over 385 series engine. That 385 series (429/460 mostly) has always had a history of being
    a heavy rotating assembly motor.

    I have seen many well built 390's and 351C's clean a 429/460 out up one side and down the other. Cubes is all you would have in your favor. Pass on it, save up for a decent 302 or stroker or 351W combo. FE's are $$ to build, but are much more powerful $ for $ than 429/460 stuff in my opinion.

    The F.E. 360 that was in my '71 F250:
